| What a Game! What a Tournament! Well Blazers fans it looks like Salem went to the tournament and swept it!
Salem Varsity Boys Basketball Team played ball this week in the Hammond Baptist Junior High School 35th Annual Invitational Basketball Tournament. The Tournament started on Thursday, January 28, 2010 with Salem playing game 1 against Crestwood. Salem triumphantly defeated Crestwood 38 – 25 with high scorer Hayes Bynum leading the team with 18 points. Contributing scorers in game 1 are Shaquan Martin (10pts), John Oliver (4pts), William Rose (2pts), and Alfred (AJ) Lewis (2pts).
Salem went on to also defeat Cornerstone 44 – 34 in the same day with high scorer Alfred (AJ) Lewis leading the Blazers with 14 points. This win placed Salem in the Semi – Final Game of the Tournament.
On Friday, January 29, 2010, the Blazers got started again dealing a defeat to Hammond 44 – 32. Great team effort from John Oliver (8pts), William Rose (8pts), Hayes Bynum (9pts), Cornelius McIntosh (4pts), Alfred Lewis (8pts), and Shaquan Martin (8pts) who scored the points in this upset. This game placed Salem in the finals against Hammond for the Championship.
Game 4…WOW! You should have been there to see the Blazers! Hayes Bynum lead all scorers with 23 points as the Salem Blazers went on to defeat Hammond 47 – 37. Scorers in this game were John Oliver (5pts), William Rose (4pts), Derek Ellington (3pts), Cornelius McIntosh (5pts), and Alfred (AJ) Lewis (4pts). Hats off to William Rose and John Oliver who threw so many assists in this game till they should be in the NBA! John Oliver and William Rose were also honored as All Tournament Players.
